The streets of downtown Halifax filled with thousands of Nathan MacKinnon fans as the Colorado Avalanche superstar brought the Stanley Cup back home to Nova Scotia for a parade and rally.

The parade started at noon in front of Scotiabank Centre where MacKinnon starred for the Halifax Mooseheads from 2011-2013, ending his junior career with a QMJHL title and Memorial Cup championship.

It proceeded south on Brunswick Street and then west on Spring Garden Road, before turning onto South Park Street and then Sackville Street before proceeding back down Brunswick. It finished at a jam-packed Grand Parade where a Q&A session with MacKinnon was held.

The Avalanche beat the two-time defending Stanley Cup champion Tampa Bay Lightning in six games in the Stanley Cup Final in June. MacKinnon finished the playoffs with 24 points in 20 games, which tied him for sixth in the league scoring race. He led the post-season (tied with Edmonton's Evander Kane) with 13 goals.
